Safe drinking water and sanitation facilities are major factors affecting the health and well-being of communities. The present situation across rural and urban populations highlights the need for scientific intervention at local, regional and national levels.
CED is engaged in R&D, training and consultancy programmes and offers expertise in urban and rural water supply, sewerage, storm water drainage, solid waste management, hydro-geological studies, water resources and watershed management.
The Centre also works on water harvesting, water and sanitation literacy campaigns, health and hygiene education, environmental pollution and environment-related diseases.

Strengthening Water & Sanitation Capacity Across India
Being the National Key Resource Centre on Drinking Water and Sanitation of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India, CED is involved in capacity building and training programmes for various target groups.
The Centre supports Water and Sanitation Literacy Campaigns and provides technology support for the implementation of water and sanitation programmes in Gram Panchayats across different States.
